The 2-15 Infantry has it's roots in the 373rd Armored Infantry Battalion
which was activated in October 1948 and moved to Wildflecken in
June 1951
. During this time the Bn was attached to the 4th Infantry Division.
In August 1951 it became part of the V Corps.

In 1 April 1958 the Bn was renamed

3rd ARB, 50th Inf

3rd Battalion 50th Infantry
(4th Armor Group, V Corps, 7th Army)

which five years later in 1963 reflagged as

2-15 Inf
2-15 Infantry

2nd Battalion 15th Infantry
(3rd Infantry Division)

Post Wildflecken belonged to the V Corps (Frankfurt). Consequently one could expect that all units stationed here should also belong to V Corps. Well, there was an exception to this rule: The 2-15 Inf was part of the 3rd Infantry Division (Würzburg) which was attached to VII Corps (Stuttgart). This somewhat strange situation ended when the 2-15 Inf was deactivated in 1982.

The soldiers of the 2-15 proudly called themselves "Top of the Rock" and even had their own patch sewed on teir BDUs.
