Prisoner of the Hill

Robert "Len" Jennings was a member of the HHB 3/52nd ADA. He served in Wildflecken from October 1986 until November 1989. The mission of the ADA (Air Defense Artillery) was to maintain an air defense shield along the border to the East, using "Hawk" anti-aircraft missiles. Those missiles had been stationed in an isolated "Tactical Site", also known as "Hawk Site" on a hill northeast of Wildflecken.

Hawk-Site

Serving on the "Hill" was very boring. Heavy snowfall in winter often cut off the "Tac Site" from civilization. The soldiers stationed here therefore often felt like "Prisoners of the Hill". In 1997 some veterans created this song in honor of all those spending (killing) time on the "Hill". Thanks "Len" for dedicating this song to all "Cold War Warriors".

Here's what Len says about the song:
"We wrote this song in honor and dedication to those soldiers we served with in the 3/52nd Air Defense Artillery in Wildflecken, Germany from 1986-1989. We especially dedicate this one to those who served in the Headquarters unit on the tactical site, know to us all as "the Hill." God bless all those men and women for your service to our country."

Lyrics

Prisoner of the Hill
(Dedicated to everyone who served in the Armed Forces of the U.S.A.)

Another day just passes by
We're prisoners we don't know why
It's always cold, there's always rain
It's lonely, so lonely
No one knows these hard times
Like prisoners, prisoners

Leave me, go - I don't wanna stay
Pack my bags and I'll be on my way
Kept me here - I don't have any say
I'm a prisoner, I'm a prisoner of the hill

Serve your country and serve it well
It isn't heaven seems more like hell
Chiefs too many and Indians few
It's lonely, so lonely
No one knows these hard times
Like prisoners, prisoners

Leave me, go - I don't wanna stay
Pack my bags and I'll be on my way
Kept me here - I don't have any say
I'm a prisoner, I'm a prisoner of the hill

Ohh - It's lonely, so lonely
Ohh - We're prisoners, prisoners

Who is wise - the leaders are fools
Making chains and breaking rules
Never change it's all the same
It's lonely, so lonely
No one knows these hard times
Like prisoners, prisoners

Leave me, go - I don't wanna stay
Pack my bags and I'll be on my way
Kept me here - I don't have any say
I'm a prisoner, I'm a prisoner of the hill
